Lets Review Some awesome language Books

501 French Verbs

I received my copy as a gift when I went to France back in 2004. It was the best gift I ever received.

If you are learning French I’d highly recommend getting this book.

There is a grammar section in the beginning of the book, and while it is small it has made all my other grammar books obsolete.

Besides covering the tenses, they also show you idioms associated with the verbs. When you are first learning a language that isn’t too important. However when I went back to France to live, I found those very useful. That section helped improved my spoken french.

There is also some exercises to practice in the back.  As far as investments go this is a great one!

201 dutch verb 201 Dutch Verbs

After the success of my French Conjugation book, I bought this when I became engaged to Prince Charming, so that I could learn Dutch.

This book isn’t as in depth as the French one.

The grammar section isn’t so clear, and I’ve had to consult other sources to understand the concept of what weak and strong verbs are.

Dutch has verbs that separate, and then verbs that have a proposition with it, and then verbs that aren’t separate verbs but look like them.

For examples Voorkomen isn’t the same as voor komen. And Ann komen doesn’t work the same way as “hij komt aan mij”.

While this is nicely explained in my dutch class, it is glossed over in this book.

However the dutch book is great for the conjugations, and isn’t an all inclusive book. That being said, I use it all the time and consider it a great investment and would highly recommend it.
