Throwback Sunday: Water and GMOs

My video Studying in France a Nightmare is still doing well with a little under 35k views. I am very happy.  The other day though I realized I was missing an opportunity of promoting my other videos. YouTube permits you to add I-Cards to promote other videos, which I’ve been improving the past 24 hours. (I am ashamed I didn’t think of it earlier.)

It is working because my video of 5 things I hate about France is starting to get some attention. I want to know that 1 the title is click bate and 2 my other more positive videos are being ignored, showing people love drama.

I made the video not to disparage France, but to show how small things can be difficult when your an expat. I can’t adequately explain the problems an expat face. It is one of those things that you have to experience to really understand. However I am confident reader in your ability to empathize.

Back in 2009 I choose to leave my home and go live somewhere else, because I am insane. I believe that anyone who goes to another country to study or live has to be a little crazy, because it is difficult.  You are starting life over from scratch.

That can be exciting, and thrilling. However there are days ( and sometimes periods that last longer) were it is frustrating and just sucks really hard.  There are times where I said I hated France, but the fact is that was always frustration coming out, not angry.

Those feeling are normal, but they can be difficult to deal with.  There are people who are reasonable and will understand what you mean. Then there are others who will just run with it.

Which brings me to water and GMOs.

One thing that is hard to miss in France is the fact that the grapes have seeds. I know fruit has them they are fruit, but I was curious as to why they didn’t sell them, because that is interesting.

Seedless grapes have a bad rap. In my opinion Americans are afraid of being killed by germs while the French are being killed by chemicals. Fruit is suppose to have seeds, if it doesn’t its been genetically modified. Therefor if you eat it you’ll die. (That last part is a bit exaggerated)

EXCEPT seedless grapes aren’t genetically modified. They are are “virgin” fruit that comes from cuttings, that are put into the ground. Thus you have a “clone” plant. It is how bananas are made, since wild banana have LOTS of seed.

Now I am hoping the comments I’m getting are trolls, but there seem to be many people upset by the fact that I don’t like grape seeds.  (I make no apologies. I hate the texture.) But what is more bizarre are the responses to my dislike of mineral water.  I’ve gotten a death threat and told by 2 different people to leave the F*ing country.

I’m at this weird impasse because I don’t know how to take this, since it is so far from my intent of the video.  I guess I will follow the french mentality and just say “Ce n’est pas grave!”
