If you want to be successful on Youtube in terms of making money, then you are going to have to market yourself and channel. Now, if the thought of marketing has you intimidated, don’t be! IT is a topic that I feel is overly complicated. It can be simplified into the 4 p’s (Price, Product, Promotion and Place.)
NOTE: This is very basic marketing. If you want to be successful I would recommend taking an online course or reading a book on the topic and forming your own opinion and strategy.
Here is my marketing strategy. Nothing is set in stone and everything is changing as I learn more about marketing.
Price
My channel is in infancy stages. My objective is to create consistence videos to build up my view count.
Once I hit the 10k mark I plan to monetize my channel right away.
After that my I will work on building my audience to the 1k, when I can apply for sponsorships.
I would also at some point like to sell my own product, IE my published book! (but that is year 2)
Product
I don’t have one niche. I’ve been experimenting with different topics that I like, and it is still a journey.
I have 3 Segments that I am 100% sure of keeping, and have been contemplating doing 3 videos a week.
[ My reasoning for that is because youtube is something I want to use to connect with people. I consider it a stepping stone to my eventual goal, more than a platform to become famous or get rich. ]
Promotion
This is something that I’ve ignored the past few months because it requires more work than I originally anticipated. However, with the new year, I am changing it up, and putting in the extra effort.
My videos automatically go out on twitter when they are schedule released. Then I will do another Twitter post AD a few hours later. I post the new video and blog on my Facebook page. Then I will do another Blog AD on twitter. My blog also has my video from youtube and links to social media, so everything is linked.
Place
I haven’t done much work on getting my name out there. I’m currently concentrating on creating a rhythm for youtube and my blog. I have ideas and goals that I would like to meet in this area but nothing is set in stone. I don’t like making declarations if I am uncertain.
I’ve had my nanowrimo videos added to a few lists (Which is super exciting)
You can also contribute to a blog, collab, join groups, help others, and just be social are my recommendations.
Marketing doesn’t have to be a complicated thing. It might be challenging, but you can do it! As the same goes: If at first you don’t succeed, shake it up and try again.
